By admin | June 23, 2008
Windows is a well-known name in the computer circle. The Window operating system is a product of Microsoft. This operating system was initially introduced by Microsoft in 1985 and was used as an add-on to MS-DOS. Before long the Window operating system became the leading operating system in the world of personal computers.
Over the years there have been several versions of the Window operating system developed. These versions are each based on specific operating environments. The first version of the Window operating system to be released to the public was based on a 16-bit operating environment, called Windows 1.0. Because this Window operating system was an add-on to MS-DOS, it was meant mostly to provide graphical user interfaces and file system services.
Next came Windows/386 which was based on a hybrid 16/32-bit operating environment. This Window operating system provided device virtualization for the video card, keyboard, mouse, timer and the controller which was inside them. This version of the Window operating system made it possible to multitask MS-DOS environments. The user was able to open separate Windows.
Over the years, with continued developments, Microsoft has released many versions of the Window operating system. Today they are developing versions based on a 64-bit operating system. Windows XP has been the main Window operating system in recent years. While people still use older versions of Windows, Microsoft continues to develop new ideas and Windows versions which are equipped with tools to make the computer even more user friendly. The latest version of the window operating system is Windows Vista. It is the first Window operating system which will be released in both 32-bit and x64 editions.
Although there are other operating systems available today, the Window operating system seems to still be at the top of the list. Microsoft continues to enhance their operating systems, providing tools and features which ensure ultimate performance.
